Meet Dr. Katherine Ahn

Dr. Katherine Ahn always loved art, everything from drawing to sewing. She simply loved to create beautiful things. At the same time, she was fascinated with the human body; how it works and how to keep it healthy.

These two attributes came together in college, when Dr. Ahn’s older sister encouraged her toward a major in dentistry. Dr. Ahn said her career choice was initially confirmed during her first dental anatomy class at UCLA Dental School. The assignment was to carve a tooth in wax. Dr. Ahn received a score of 25 out of 25—the only perfect score in her class.

Today, as a general dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Ahn is even more confident and passionate about her career in dentistry.

“I love it because I am really able to practice what I went into dentistry for; bringing health and rehabilitation to my patients, while putting my artistic talents to work. It brings me great joy in helping patients restore their dental health with optimal function and aesthetics,” Dr. Ahn says.

“Most people’s understanding of Cosmetic Dentistry is limited to making teeth whiter and straighter. In actuality, Cosmetic Dentistry is simply the by-product of excellent General Dentistry. While some dentist may just drill and fill a tooth, Dr. Ahn combines art with skill to carefully design and restore the teeth in the most ideal way possible. This meticulous approach to dentistry is what will naturally result in General and Cosmetic Dentistry at its finest,” she says.

Dr. Ahn practices with her husband Dr. Peter Newen – a renowned plastic surgeon – at The Image Center in Huntington Beach.
