Injectable Procedures
botox®
The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often
referred to by its product name Botox®, is a
popular non-surgical injection that temporarily
reduces or eliminates frown lines, forehead
creases and crows feet near the eyes. Botox®
can also improve facial contour and help bruxers
and clenchers by reducing the jaw muscle
activity.
collagen
Collagen is used primarily to fi ll wrinkles, lines
and scars on the face and sometimes the neck,
back and chest. Collagen is a naturally occurring
protein that provides support to various
parts of the human body: the skin, the joints,
the bones and the ligaments. Cosmoderm and
Cosmoplast® are derived from human collagen.
Zyderm® and Zyplast® are derived from
purifi ed bovine collagen. Injectable collagen
received approval from the Food and Drug Administration
in1981. It is produced in various
thicknesses to meet individual patient needs.
Zyplast®/Cosmoplast®
restylane / juvéderm
A natural cosmetic dermal fi ller based on
Hyaluronic Acid restores volume and fullness
to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial
wrinkles and nasolabial folds. Hyaluronicbased
fi llers have been used by dermatologists
and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide.
Studies have shown that the effects generally
last for about 6 months.
sculptra
A mixture consisting of micro spheres from
polylactic (1 to 50 ?m) acid suspended in
methylcellulose. It is generally used to correct
large defects. It has demonstrated to have a
skin thickening affect after injections in the subcutaneous
fat. Results can be enhanced with a
layering technique. It has been reported to last
up to two years.
fat injection / graft
In the medical world, the fat-injection procedure
is known as autologous fat transplantation
or microlipoinjection. It involves extracting
fat cells from the patient’s abdomen, thighs,
buttocks or elsewhere and reinjecting them beneath
the facial skin. Fat is most often used to
fi ll in “sunken” cheeks or laugh lines between
the nose and mouth, to correct skin depressions
or indentations, to minimize forehead
wrinkles to fi ll in hollowness around the eyes
and to enhance the lips. Optimum results can
be achieved with a layering technique.

Fat injections and grafts are only performed by a physician. All other injectable procedures are administered by a physician or RN.
