Multi-layer Facelift Surgery – Reducing the Signs of Aging

We may not be able to resist a youthful, pretty face after all, according to a report from the University of Pennsylvania. Experiments in which subjects were given a fraction of a second to judge "attractiveness" offer compelling evidence that our preference for youth and beauty might be hard-wired. People who participated in the Penn studies were also more likely to associate youthful, pretty faces with positive traits. "Faces hold a special power for us, perhaps more so than art or objects," according to Ingrid Olson, a professor in Penn's Department of Psychology.

So it is not surprising that many of us desire to retain our youthful appearance well into our adult years. But time and the environment are not on our side when it comes to preserving our youthfulness.

Our faces are subjected to many things that can alter its appearance. The effects of gravity, sun exposure, and the stress of daily life can all play a part in forming lines on the face. Other contributing factors can include a slack jaw line and fat deposits under the chin. Some temporary improvements can be obtained using laser resurfacing and chemical peels. But for more dramatic and lasting results multilayer facelift surgery can remove excess fat, tighten muscles, and reposition the skin on the face and neck. While a multi-layer facelift can't stop the aging process, it can "set back the clock” by improving the most visible signs of aging, making us look younger and more alive. This new appearance can also enhance self-confidence in the process.

Although cosmetic surgery procedures like a multi-layer facelift are not a substitute for good self-esteem and psychological health, for many people it helps them to live a more fulfilled life. Determining if you are a candidate for cosmetic surgery is a decision you should make in concert with a qualified physician.
