QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

5. What are the benefits of nutritional supplements?

Science demonstrates the benefits of anti-oxidants in fruits and vegetables. The message now is not that fruits and vegetables are good for you. It is that they are so good for you they could save your life. Americans spend as much as $1.7 billion a year on vitamin and mineral supplements, but nutrition experts say much of what our bodies need to fight off infection can be found in foods. Synthetic vitamins have low absorption and thus a diminished end result (low bioavailability for the body to actually use). Scientific research is showing greater value in vitamins from whole foods than from synthetic manufactured pills. Thousands of critical enzymes and phytochemicals attached to whole food helps our body actually use the vitamins to our benefit.

In today’s busy life, it is difficult to eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables (which is now 5 to 13 servings per day). This is the reason why we were excited to discover Juice Plus+. Juice Plus+ is made of 17 nutrient-rich pure whole food fruits, vegetables, and grains in a capsule with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and enzymes that may be lost with synthetic vitamins. Juice Plus + lowers levels of lipid peroxides and homocysteine in the blood. It also helps enhance immune function, reduces DNA damage and improves circulation. Unlike other supplements, it is the most extensively studied nutritional product by independent research world-wide to give it validity.

Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona, MD, MPH, FACS US Surgeon General says “There is no greater imperative in American health care than switching from a treatment-oriented society to a prevention-oriented society.”

(Much of the information above was obtained from Dr. Paul Stricker, MD – pediatrician and Sports Medicine specialist who consults with athletes regarding injury prevention and nutrition.)

At The Spa @ the image center, we believe that internal health plays a significant role in skin health and surgery recovery. This is the reason why we recommend the following to our clients and patients:

1. Eat a healthy diet; increase fruit & vegetable intake, decrease sugar & fat in diet
2. Drink 8~10 glasses of water per day
3. Exercise in moderation
4. Relax and decrease stress in your life
5. Take without supplements such as Juice Plus as part of your daily routine or as our "3 Steps to Surgery Success" Program
